Roy's Boys

START!

Shane and I have known each other for a long time, and it’s high time we put our friendship to the test by mixing work and play. Roy’s Boys is truly the culmination of how much we love to hate each other. We’ve been throwing ideas back and forth for over a year now, and having a blast doing it. Now it’s finally time. The comic has launched.  My strips will go live every Monday, and Shane’s will go up every Thursday. Please, do enjoy.

Roy on TV

Hey look! Periscope Studio, where I do all my work from, was on TV! A program called Oregon Art Beat did a feature on us. It’s pretty snazzy.

Alternative Press Expo!

A little late to the party but I’ll be exhibiting at the Alternative Press Expo (APE) this coming weekend – the 16th/17th – in San Francisco.  Sadly Roy will not be in attendance as he wasn’t planning on going and has rather abruptly made haste to San Diego for business.  I’ll have some Roy’s Boys freebies including comic fliers and a selection of buttons including our logo and our silly looking mugs.  If you’re in town stop by booth 714 to get some freebies, say hi, check out some of my other comic work and see the fine products of my friends Ashley Burke and Cat Farris, whom I’ll be sharing the table with.

Hope to see you at the show!

Prolonged Contact, Episode 1: Podcaste

Well, here it is, Prolonged Contact, the podcast you’ve all been waiting for, maybe even dying for.  That is, of course, assuming you’ve been waiting for a monthly podcast from Roy and myself, where we polish our egos by talking about our stupid lives and the comic for damn near an hour.

As this is the first show, it’s a little rough and a little long, but serves as a good indication of what the show will offer.  We spend a little time talking about whatever’s on our minds in the beginning, as well as justifying the idea of having a podcast.  Then, we go through the first ten strips of Roy’s Boys and discuss the origins of each, alternate ideas and anything else we think is either funny or interesting pertaining to the comics.  At the end of the show, we answer any questions we have from you, the readers (thanks btw)!

In this episode our conversation runs the entire gamut: from Alan Wake attire, to power squids, to cinnamon challenges, vegetable parfaits and even subtle boners.

Strips Discussed: Sack Discussions, A Lesson In Robotics, Unhealthy, (Post) Rock Me To Sleep, Roy Tries Karaoke, Swingers, Infestation, Fly Trap, Shoulder Action, Mixed Nuts, Glasses Repair, Big Fetish.

Questions Answered: Why don’t the characters have your glasses on in the comic? Did your alternate universe counterparts have laser eye surgery? Or perhaps just laser powered optical nerves?

*Prolonged Contact  is recorded on location, and sadly without a studio audience – but that would be totally awesome

Prolonged Contact, Episode 2: We Like To Eat

Just in time for the holiday we have a brand spankin’ new podcast ready for your greedy consumption. Go ahead, set an extra place setting out at your feast for Roy’s Boys.

In the latest episode we talk about Super Soakers, Nerf guns, aliases and several other wastes of your time.

Strips Discussed: One Pine Day, Gigantor, Fast Food Nation, The Consensus, Beam Me Up, Last Stop, Grand Evil, Roof Flies Off, Grand Evil

Questions Answered:

-What’s the deal with you guys using your characters’ “aliases” during your podcast? I understand the reason for a slight alternate reality for the comic, but since the ‘cast reflects your insights as artists, why not use your real names? (53:04)

-Favorite food cart? (54:55)

-In your comic, Roy’s Boys you have set up an imaginary world where Roy can come back from the dead and Shane can pop boners. In all seriousness, I am curious as to how you decide what can or can’t happen in your world since it is based in reality. Are the rules of your world dictated by whatever serves the joke or have you methodically planned out the rules ahead of time? (1:03:55)
